Canoo Releases Web 2.0 Platform for Mobile Devices
Basel, Switzerland (PRWeb) February 20, 2007 -- Canoo today announced that it has released a mobile version of its Java RIA library, UltraLightClient (ULC) for mobile devices and PDAs: ULC Mobile 1.0
(http://www.canoo.com/ulc/products/ulcmobile.html).
New Product: ULC Mobile
ULC Mobile is specially geared for Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) running on top of the Java Micro Edition (Java ME) platform. Using ULC Mobile, you can now develop Enterprise Web 2.0 applications with a desktop user experience that will run on both Java SE and Java ME clients. The new product offers the same API as UltraLightClient, which means that existing UltraLightClient applications can essentially be reused without code changes.
UltraLightClient's built-in optimizations such as lazy loading and caching also apply to ULC Mobile, which make it particularly suited for handheld devices with their limited memory and slower network connections. Large server-based applications will be accessible via rich UIs on mobile devices and PDAs. ULC Mobile requires CrE-ME to be installed on the handheld device.
A developer license for ULC Mobile costs 4999 US $ and can be purchased at the Canoo website. A 30-day evaluation license can be obtained. For details please contact Canoo.
Sample Application
A sample application showing an online shopping application customized for a PDA is available at the Canoo website.
The demo application is a limited version of the ULC OnlineShop sample and can be downloaded to any handheld device. To install and run the ULC Mobile sample on a PDA, follow the instructions listed on the sample page.
Build Rich Internet Applications in Java
UltraLightClient (ULC) is a Java library for web user interface development, bridging the gap between Java Swing and a server-side architecture. UltraLightClient allows Java developers to develop mission-critical Enterprise Web 2.0 applications with a rich and responsive user interface using proven Java technology both on the client and on the server.
ULC Deployment Options now include Windows CE
UltraLightClient-based applications can be deployed in a J2EE container, as a portlet, or stand-alone without changing the code. On the client, a standard JRE from 1.4 upwards is all that is required. The new product, ULC Mobile, extends the deployment options to mobile devices that run with the Windows CE operating system.
UltraLightClient is available for purchase at http://www.canoo.com/ulc/. A developer license costs US$ 1499 and includes free runtime distribution on any number of servers. A free evaluation license may be ordered for 30 days.
Canoo offers consulting, testing and development services for customers interested in using ULC Mobile for their project.

Blogging Success: Make Your Blog Look Unique
Many blogs display the same boring templates or skins for the layout. While the template does not affect readers who enjoy your blog via RSS feed (unless they click through to the blog), but it really affects any other blog visitor who reads the blog from the web browser. The more unique looking a blog design is, the easier it is to build brand recognition and a good name that gets you into viral marketing. If your blog looks like dozens of other blogs, your own blog will not stick out from the crowd and you will lose out on visitors. In the past I have been using free Wordpress templates myself. I applied minor modifications, but it never really separated my blog from others enough to be really unique.
